I am going to try to reflect on the lives and examples of Theresa and Antony through lent. I will use Holy Women, Holy Men for my reflections on Antony and My Life with the Saints for my reflections on Theresa. If anyone else has any suggestions for resources on either of these saints, I’d be glad to check them out.
“Why is a person attracted to one saint and not another? Why do the stories of people whose lives have, at least on the surface, so little in common with ours speak to us? How is it that I feel so drawn to ask the help of someone who died centuries ago? What is it that moves me about the son of a sixteenth-century marquis? In many ways, an attraction or a devotion to a saint is, to use an overused expression, a mystery. But because of this, such devotions need to be reverenced for what they are-unexpected graces in the spiritual life and gifts from the God of surprises.”
—Father James Martin, SJ“All of Assisi felt to me like a church: the very paving stones seemed holy.”

“"More than ever," he wrote, "I find myself in the hands of God. This is what I have wanted all my life, from my youth. But now there is a difference; the initiative is entirely with God. It is indeed a profound spiritual experience to know and feel myself so totally in God's hands."”
