ANNOUNCEMENT: We are officially moving to California!!

I discussed this vaguely several weeks ago, but I needed to talk to my family before I revealed more details publicly.

DETAILS AND WHAT THIS MEANS: 

  • We have a house (that is 100% wheelchair accessible!!!) that we will share with a dear friend. The cost for rent and utilities is almost identical to what we pay here. 
  • D will go back to work, because our roommate will be able to act as a companion for me while he is gone. His job prospects are also MUCH better there, for many reasons. 
  • I WILL HAVE HEALTHCARE. Utah is almost certainly deciding against the medicaid expansion, and so unless we keep our income below 100% of poverty (which is not nearly enough to live on long term) I am fucked and endlessly uninsured. In CA I will be eligible for MANY health and disability programs. 

There are several other reasons we decided to go; it is a liberal state- so I will have FAR more opportunities to continue to work in politics, our friend is suddenly living alone in a big house and going to have brain surgery soon- so she needs us, the culture is way more suited to our lifestyle than this dominant Mormon environment here, better doctors and disability programs, medical marijuana, the BEACH, distance from family, etc etc etc. 

It is stressful and scary and I worry about D leaving behind so many friends- but overall I am SO FUCKING EXCITED TO GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM THIS HELL-TOWN!!!
