Polychronic vs Monochronic ...wtf?
The thing is, the meaning of TIME never had a true textbook definition. It’s what society deems it to be and how it handles it. Nowadays, industrialized and urbanized societies such as Los Angeles or New York demand a concrete organization of time, with little to no emphasis on human relationships or interaction. These societies are known as Monochronic Societies. On the flip side, we have Polychronic Societies; they put emphasis on human relationships and then put the issue of time into the equation after.
You see, I often wonder where (…or when [harhar]) I stand on this issue. I live, work, study, eat, play in a society that demands punctuality and often come into conflict with these established norms. Because as an individual, I have learned that people, including myself, aren’t naturally accustomed to “being on the clock”, when everything in their day goes according to plan. Sure, you have your businessmen, bankers, executives, ballers; they live their lives day in and day out according to plans, but I’m sure that it was something that took some getting used to.
Anyway, I only want to talk about this issue because my friend Jimmy and I were talking about people “being late” and he stated how he hates being late and when others are late. On the other hand, I don’t mind being late or if others are late (to an extent).

Time Consciousness: The difference between monochronic and polychronic cultures. Monochronic cultures focus on one thing at a time and behaviors like punctuality and meeting deadlines are valued. In polychronic cultures, many things are focused on. Interactions and relationships are highly valued and interruptions are expected. Individuals in polychronic cultures are less likely to experience extreme frustration at tardiness or delays in general.
