Porter Robinson: Stadium EDM comparable to bad Pop music

A musician is entitled to draw the line when it involves the direction of his or her own music. Porter Robinson made his personal preference overtly known during an interview with DJ Mag after he gave his reasoning behind denying a remix proposal from pop icon Katy Perry. In the interview, he took a clear stand against the so called “Stadium EDM” sound. For those who are unaware, the term defines a particular style of music which is geared more towards arena-size performances. To some, achieving such a sound requires adjusting one’s music to fit the tastes of a mass market. To Porter, it simply means playing it safe instead of taking risks as a true artist. “Those kind of functional, club-focused EDM tracks that are created to make people jump in stadiums are as uninspiring to me as bad pop music,” says Porter.
At least we know there are still producers out there who try to gauge each opportunity as a means to further develop their artistic vision rather than a way to bank on popularity.

His unique sound has been spread worldwide, with performances at major clubs and festivals across 4 continents. Along with his album Lucky Guess (released this year on Innerground) Random Movement’s soulful, smooth, deep and jazzy vibes have landed releases on Innerground, Liquid V, CIA, Integral, Bassbin, Creative Source, Spearhead, Horizons, Wesbay International and more. Between tours, production, a weekly live radio show on Bassdrive.com, and a monthly podcast, things are continuing to be very productive for this very prolific producer. His uplifting d ‘n’ b style and great personality are not something to be missed live.
Unquote Saint Petersburg based electronic music producer Vsevolod Ermakov aka Unquote started in making music in 2007. Influenced by the likes of Exit Recordings and Spectrasoul, and working with his sometime collaborator Mr Sizef, it wasn’t long before he realised that he wanted to break the mould with a new soulful and deeper sound. He first appeared on Hospital’s “Future Sound Of Russia” compilation in 2007, before going on to sign exclusively to Hospital’s experimental offshoot label Med School. His single “Hide Your Tears Because We Are In Heaven” was released last year, followed up by his recently released debut artist album “Reverberation Box” which is out now on 12” vinyl / CD / digital downloadMixmag's top 20 greatest dance acts of all time
