What's happening in Brazil

It’s sad to admit this but like many brazilians, I’ve never been a person really interested in politics. In the midst of so much corruption, people seem to be discredited that positive change can come from this decayed system. Though the economy has been growing, none of this came with a significant improvement in social welfare, but that’s just a reflection of bad choices. We are the ones who elected them, which make us responsible for all that crap.

Great changes only happen when people unite for an ideal. It took us long, but we finally reached our limit. I took the liberty of translating the text taken from the website http://impedimento.org which explain exactly why these riots started.

“The increase of the passage is a pretext for the standard of Brazil as an emerging country: the service became more expensive, but didn’t improve. The bus became more expensive, but it didn’t justify this increase – is still crowded, still killing passengers (like in Rio), still lingering. Like buses, housing also became more expensive and hasn’t improved, health got more expensive and hasn’t improved.  Education became more expensive and hasn’t improved. (…) Given all that, the arrival of a Confederations Cup amplifies the outrage. The stadiums are expensive, paid by the State, and hospitals, paid by the state, kill people for lack of care.”

This is a blog that shares pictures of male models, i don’t have any intention to turn this into a political debate but i’m asking you, my 60.233 followers, as a brazilian and as a human being to take quick look at these 2 videos below, one is explaining with more details what’s happening and how you can help us, the other is showing how the police (that is supposed to protect us) is reacting with these riots.

“Jamais achei que ele fosse atirar”, afirma repórter atingida em protesto (to active english subtitles, just click on the button at the video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6QVLE8PQJ8

Best Regards,

I stopped by your art show today, it was great! It's really cool to see illustrative art in a NY gallery, and your paintings were amazing. Congratulations! That rain though, haha.

Thank you so much for coming (and to anyone else who attended my show on Friday), it was such an honor!

Oh my god THE. RAIN. THE RAAAAAAAAIN. Guys. You don’t understand. You had to be there. During the three hours of my show (all day in fact), there was an actual tropical storm outside. LIKE LITERALLY A TROPICAL STORM THE RAIN HAD A NAME (“TROPICAL STORM ANDREA”) the trees were whipping around and I GOT A FLASH FLOOD WARNING ON MY PHONE and iT WAS LIKE SUDDEN MONSOON SEASON IN NEW YORK CITY.

I FELT SO BAD BECAUSE PEOPLE STILL SHOWED UP BUT THEY WERE SOAKED TO THE BONE, everyone looked like drowned rats and it’s not like I prepared 200 towels and hot tea or anything because HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW. (I knew there’d be rain but it wasn’t until an hour before the show started that the Tropical Storm warnings came in…)

And the next morning, of course… bright and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky. SUCH IS MY LIFE.

Seriously though, thank you if you braved that weather. Thank you so much. I cannot even express how much it meant to me!

You thought "being held down and watching your family get raped" is an accurate description of season 4? I want Dan Harmon back on the show as much as the next person, but that comment was inexcusable and saying "you know how he is" as really weak. There's nothing funny about it or accurate about it.

Agree. That’s not the kind of joke that should be done, for the simples fact that is not a joke.

My accurate description of season 4 would be: it was like eating a neapolitan ice cream. I like it, but had the good bad (chocolate), the normal part (vanilla) and the I wouldn’t mind if this weren’t here part (strawberry).

What's up with the Anonymous Hate Messages?

I seriously don’t see the benefit of hating someone here on Tumblr. Sending nasty comments and personal insults to someone doesn’t make you a better person.. It makes you even worse. Surely as bloggers, we are all entitled for our own freedom of speech. But that doesn’t mean we are free to deliberately bully someone innocent. Every person has their own set of beliefs, norms, and traits that we need to give respect.

In the first place, no one’s forcing you to like what they do, or admire what they say.

If you don’t like something, or someone, don’t try to bring the person down. Learn to be rational.. correct them, and love them instead..

Send me questions and stuff? Nobody talks to me.

I dunno. I am a writer (not professionally yet), and if someone took my characters from me and started running amok like they did on Community, I would probably feel the same as Harmon. Perhaps not in such colorful language, but still. It really is like seeing your friends or children messed with.

I understand his feelings, I just think that the choice of words to express them was…the worst choice ever.

I’m sure he didn’t wanted to offend or disrespect anyone. But sometimes people make mistakes, this was one of them.

I figure you know this, but just in case you don't - "Streets ahead" was used by an angry person on Twitter telling Dan Harmon other shows were "streets ahead of your dumb little comedy". To spite this person, Dan then resolved to let Pierce use "streets ahead" and have everyone think it's ridiculous. So yes, "streets ahead" is a real thing.

yep :)
