Must see: Francesca Woodman @Mendes Wood
Today’s post is specially dedicated to those in São Paulo. A Friday post to those who are staying in town and wondering what to do during the weekend. My suggestion is a must see exhibition going on at one of my favorite galleries in São Paulo, Mendes Wood.
Mendes Wood is now hosting a beautiful exhibition of Francesca Woodman, rare photographs to be seen around here, it’s actually the first time that her work is showcased in Brazil.
The thirty photographs on view at the gallery were taken between 1972 and 1980 and include one of the artist’s first self-portraits, naked and wandering in the forest.
Woodman’s photographs were mostly captured at a slow shutter speed in long exposures and the longer her shutter stayed open, the blurrier and more transparent bodies appeared, until at last they disappeared.
Her work is a converging point of poetry, beauty and mystery; depicting transformation and some kind of supernatural feelings throughout smoothness and yet great force. so vast is art loves and recommends!

O post de hoje é especialmente dedicado aos paulistanos. Um post de sexta-feira para aqueles que ficam na cidade nesse feriado e procuram o que fazer durante o fim de semana. Minha sugestão é uma exposição must see que está em uma das minhas galerias favoritas em São Paulo, a Mendes Wood.
A Mendes Wood está agora com a exposição de tirar o fôlego de Francesca Woodman, fotografias raras por aqui, é na verdade a primeira vez que o trabalho de Francesca Woodman é exibido no Brasil.
As trinta fotografias em exibição na galeria foram feitas entre 1972 e 1980 e incluem um dos primeiros auto-retratos nus da artista vagando pela floresta.
As fotografias de Woodman foram em sua maioria capturadas em uma velocidade lenta em longas exposições e quanto mais seu obturador ficava aberto, mais os corpos se desfocavam e mais transparentes apareciam, até finalmente desaparecerem.
Seu trabalho é um ponto de convergência entre beleza, poesia e mistério; retratando sempre uma transformação e algum tipo de sentimento sobrenatural com suavidade e muita, muita força. so vast is art adora e recomenda!

Mendes Wood presents Paulo Nazareth and Adriano Costa
Last weekend was definitely a busy weekend for the art lovers in São Paulo. Gallerists, artists, journalists, photographers and art lovers did their best to share their time in between SP-Arte – major Art fair in Brazil – brunches, openings and gatherings that celebrated the Art market during the weekend. One of the highlights of the delightful and hectic weekend was the opening of Notícias de America by brazilian artist Paulo Nazareth along with the launch of his book Paulo Nazareth Arte Contemporânea /LTDA. The event was held together with the opening of Plantation by brazilian artist Adriano Costa at Mendes Wood gallery.
The gallery ran a full house event last Saturday evening and had a lot to celebrate. This is the first solo show of Adriano Costa that brings together a selection of sculptures that are created by everyday and ordinary objects. Bath towels, umbrellas, window screens and other found objects are transformed into poetry through the artist’s hands. Plantation is seized in the front room of the gallery.
The garden of the gallery and the back room was taken by Paulo Nazareth’s exhibition that made the public feel the atmosphere of the America he experienced. Nazareth left Minas Gerais (Brazil) in March of 2011 and made his way northward on foot and by bus, arriving in the United States in October. The record and fragments of this trip are showcased raw and bold just like the artist himself. Nazareth was at the opening, friendly and lively, he filled up the room with his unmistakable presence as he signed his books, bare foot of course.

O final de semana passado foi com certeza um fim de semana agitado para os amantes da arte em São Paulo. Galeristas, artistas, jornalistas, fotógrafos e art lovers dividiram seu tempo entre a SP-Arte, brunches, inaugurações e encontros que celebraram o mercado da arte durante todo o fim de semana. Um dos destaques desses deliciosos e agitados últimos dias foi a abertura de Notícias de América do artista brasileiro Paulo Nazareth, juntamente com o lançamento de seu livro Paulo Nazareth Arte Contemporânea / LTDA. O evento foi realizado em conjunto com a abertura de Plantation do também brasileiro Adriano Costa na galeria Mendes Wood.
A galeria recebeu o público com a casa cheia na noite de sábado passado e teve muito o que comemorar. Esta é a primeira exposição individual de Adriano Costa, e reúne uma seleção de esculturas que são criadas a partir de objetos comuns e do nosso cotidiano. Toalhas de banho, guarda-chuvas, cortinas e outros objetos encontrados são transformados em poesia através das mãos do artista. Plantation está sendo exibida na sala da frente da galeria.
O jardim da galeria e a sala do fundo foram tomados pela exposição de Paulo Nazareth que fez o público sentir a atmosfera da tal América que ele vivenciou. Nazareth deixou Minas Gerais em março de 2011 e se dirigiu ao norte à pé e de ônibus, chegando aos Estados Unidos em outubro do ano passado. O registro e fragmentos desta viagem são exibidos ousadamente e em estado bruto que lembram o próprio artista. Nazareth estava na abertura, simpático, ele preencheu a sala com a sua presença inconfundível enquanto assinava os livros, de pés descalços, claro.
