Hey Agent M, is the free comics thing only in the US, or would a fan from the UK be able to access these free things in a local Starbucks?
Unfortunately, our partnership with Starbucks to offer free access to Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited while in a Starbucks is only good in the U.S.
Debating Downloading Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #160
Part of me wants to do this to see what and how Bendis handles this. As a lapsed reader of the Ultimate Universe, I still managed to collect 50 + issues of Ultimate Spider-Man before I quit. I enjoyed it, and I am tempted to see how this turns out.
Why not buy it in print then? A couple of reasons. The first, I did not “pull” it at my lcs so the chances of getting a copy are slim. The second is that I want to support Marvel’s day and date digital releases in hopes that they, like DC will move in that direction for their entire line.
So why is there a debate? I really don’t want to pay full retail price on a digital comic. It just isn’t the same. An example is that on Kindle when a book is released digitally and in stores, there is a tiered pricing system. For example, a new book: Before I go to Sleep: A Novel, I priced at $14.99 for the hard cover (on Amazon, the list price is $25.99) but the Kindle edition is $12.99. So, $14.99 at a 45% markdown or $25.99 retail vs. $12.99 digital. I would like to point out that the digital price is right about 50% off the retail of the physical. This is how it should be. If they want to do what DC is planning to do which is to drop the price after a month or so, then that sounds good to me. Marvel currently does not do that with it’s day and date releases. All of the Ultimate Comics Spider-Man, that has released day and date, is still priced at $3.99.
So the debate, I want to support digital, specifically MARVEL digital, but don’t want them getting the idea that a $3.99 digital book is an acceptable price point. Still in the end, I want Marvel to go digital, and the best way to do that is support it’s digital sales, so that they have incentive to release digital books. I suppose I will just have to worry about the pricing later on. In the meantime, I don’t have it in my budget to pick up USM #160 this month, so that will happen in July. Another upside to digital? They don’t sell out.

so, I just downloaded this from comixology and if you don’t know, it is the beginning of Brand New Day. I’ll be collecting this monthly (just like if it was new. This means that You will getting “reviews” don’t like it? Hahahaha tough.
All that being said, I kinda enjoyed this issue. I had to kind of grit my teeth and just accept the events of ” one more day,” but once that was over it was readable. Dan Slott is a good fit for Spidey and I really enjoy Steve McNiven’s art. I still have to kind of chuckle when I hear the name Mr. Negative, but at least Spidey makes fun of it.
I gave it 3 out of 5 stars on comixology.

Marvel Comics will be sold with Digital Code
It probably comes as no big secret that Marvel Comics are typically the last comics that I read on a weekly basis. I have to commend Marvel for their recent decision to include a Digital Code in select titles. Starting in June, Marvel will be giving you a little something extra for that $3.99. All $3.99 titles will now include codes for free digital copies of those same issues on the Marvel Comics app for iOS and Android devices at no extra cost.
David Gabriel, SVP of Sales, Marvel Entertainment, had this to say:
We’re committed to bringing fans the best value in comics. By including codes for free digital copies in all our $3.99 super hero comics, we’re doing just that. We’ve seen a tremendous response to the digital codes in Avenging Spider-Man, our Season One graphic novels and the Ultimate Comics line. The positive reactions from both retailers and fans make it clear that including these codes with our books drives customers into comic stores on a repeated basis.

Anyone else having this problem with Redeeming the ‘free’ codes that come with their comics?
Last week I ‘redeemed’ two codes (One for ‘All New X-Men’ and the other for ‘New Avengers’). I got the success page.
but when I go to my collection they’re not there. I tried entering in the codes again but I get the ‘already redeemed’ message. I emailed Marvel but I haven’t heard anything yet.
Today, I redeemed my code for ‘Superior Spider-Man’ and the same thing happened. It didn’t show up in my collection.
Is there something wrong with my account? Is it Marvel? I’ve done this plenty of times before and never had this problem so I don’t think I’m suddenly doing it wrong. Anyone have any ideas?
UPDATE: ‘Superior’ showed up. Still no sign of ‘All New X-Men’ and ‘New Avengers’
Amazing Spider-Man #36 (9/11 Issue)
I just rereadAmazing Spider-Man #36 and am close to tears. For those of you unfamiliar with the issue, it is the one involving 9/11. I honestly…I need to break this down so you can see how this makes me feel.
The second page…the first page where you see Spider-Man…and where the towers stood. Spider-Man’s reaction is what I imagine most people’s reactions were at that time. “…God…”.
The next page, the civilians asking Spidey, “Where were you?” and “How could you let this happen?” This page, and Spidey’s thoughts about these questions show you how helpless many people felt, including the superheroes.
A few pages later, showing the supervillains there. Showing that, no matter how bad these villains were supposed to be, even they felt that the attack was too much. Dr. Doom’s tears at the bottem of the page nearly kills me…
When I come to the page that depicts what happened on United 93, I have to stop. I saw the movie, andeven then I had to pause it partwat through. Those people…they were heroes…
The page showing a broadcast where people are pointing fingers saying we had that coming angers me. This country is great. We have our faults, every country does. But no country deserved that.
And…God…the one thought caption…”Bodies in freefall on the evening news.”…it sends chills down my spine. I think back to the movie ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’. I think of the scenes were Tom Hanks is falling from the towers. I realie Hanks is only an actor and that that did not happen to him, but it did happen to others.
The scene with the little boy…oh, God, I’m going to cry…”—And if I wait and stay and I don’t leave he’ll be okay, because I’ll do what he told me, and—”…I knew what was coming next. I had a gut feeling. But seeing the firefighters haul away the body of the man I knew was the kid’s father, before it was revealed, killed me. And then the next panel…Spidey holding the kid, the kid having tears in his eyes. And Spidey holding the kid back on the next page as the kid screams for his dad…
“There are no words. There are no words.”
And then going to Cap. Bringing up the fact that this is the second time Captain America saw an attack on American soil (the first being Pearl Harbor).
“I wish I had not lived to see this once.”
I’m sorry…I…I just had to share my feelings about this. Even if noone reads it, I just had to put this out there.
If anyone would like to read the issue, you can find it in the “free comics” section on the Marvel Digital Comics page. I definitely suggest reading it. Even if you don’t like comic books.
Oh God…I think I’m gonna reread it one more time and maybe have myself a good cry…
