Margaret Sanger was a horrible person.

That is not in debate. She was a disgusting racist.

She is also dead.

She died almost 50 years ago. Planned Parenthood is no longer what she intended it to be. Her actions or beliefs should not reflect poorly on it. It is an institution that does much good for so many women. It is not just a place where you can go to get an abortion. It is not a taxpayer abortion organization. 3% of Planned Parenthood’s funding goes towards abortions. Three percent. It is devoted to sexual and reproductive health, it is empowering women, it promotes sex and sexuality education and awareness. It provides screening for breast, cervical and testicular cancer, and HIV. It provides menopause treatments. It provides pregnancy testing for women who want to have children. It provides vasectomies and tubal litigations. 97% of Planned Parenthood’s funding goes towards these things.

If you want to defund Planned Parenthood because you don’t like abortions, or because Margaret Sanger opened a birth control clinic in Brooklyn in 1916, you are an idiot. That is all there is to it.

Just in case you didn't know who Margaret Sanger was.

(thanks to Brock Lawley).

This woman was the founder of Planned Parenthood.

“Attempts to discredit the family planning movement because its early 20th-century founder was not a perfect model of early 21st-century values is like disavowing the Declaration of Independence because its author, Thomas Jefferson, bought and sold slaves. ”

—Planned Parenthood

Which also makes me think about all you who bash Sanger but who have ancestors who were slave owners. Should people assume you agree with slavery today?

Today there are more Nazis living in the US than in Germany so if you are related to them, should we assume you are a Nazi too?

“No woman can call herself free who does not control her own body.”

—Margaret Sanger

“I cannot refrain from saying that women must come to recognize there is some function of womanhood other than being a child-bearing machine”

Margaret Sanger.

I know she is really problematic but she does say/do some good things. She did believe women should be able to chose when and if they become mothers.
