“I decided that I loved feminists and embraced feminism. Not only does feminism give woman a voice, but it also clears the way for men to free themselves from the stranglehold of traditional masculinity. When we hurt the women in our lives, we hurt ourselves, and we hurt our community, too. ”

—Byron Hurt, Why I am a Male Feminist.

“Men can be great feminist allies, but because of their privileged positions as men and because they cannot understand firsthand what patriarchal oppression feels like, it’s important for men to take a supportive role.”

“Feminism Needs Men, Too” by Lauren Rankin, at Policy Mic.

This is what male feminism looks like.

This is really interesting. I like that he starts about by giving credit to women for  creating these movements. He says some really thoughtful things about how when it comes to domestic violence we need to stop questioning the victims but rather question the perpetrators and the culture that encourages their actions.

He also mentions that he knows gender is non-binary, which is nice.

“The goal is to get men who are not abusive to question the men that are.” Such a good point. He specifically mentions men need to call out other men who are being sexist.

the best thing about telling men that they can’t be feminists is that you can instantly find out whether they give a fuck about women or whether they just want their male ego stroked

I don't know how to be any more clear about this

Men are NOT oppressed by women or feminism, they are afraid of their privilege being taken away so they react to it by forming men’s rights bullshit. Men face issues caused by patriarchy, which we feminists are trying to smash! We want equality god dammit.
