Macworld often has some great writing, and in this article PC World’s Jason Cross hits the nail on the head so hard the nail grew eyes just so it could see cartoonish little stars and birds floating in it’s blurry visionOk, that was weird, but good, right? (Editor’s note: *rolls eyes*)

PC manufacturers are struggling to deliver products their customers say they want, such as affordable well-constructed “Ultrabooks”, which remind me of Ultraman, and all those books he read. Companies should be developing products that push the envelope instead of listening to their market surveys. The optical drive is a great example of something customers think they want. A LOT of people worry about not having one, but most people hardly, if ever, use them. (Except my grandma, and she’s always asking me how in the world the internet fits on her AOL disk).

Here’s the problem with listening to your customers instead of your heart: It renders you incapable of making something they don’t know they want yet, and you can’t make them comfortable with ditching obsolete tech if you haven’t ditched it yourself. Be bold. Make a move! Is anyone else tired of Apple being the only electronics company who innovates? It’s time to quit playing catch-up, guys.

Sales numbers notwithstanding, they’ll suffer the ignominious fate of being labeled also-rans. They’ll be “MacBook Air-like.” The problem with PC manufacturers is not that they can’t build a computer as good as the hottest Apple thing, it’s that they’re constantly trying to. Apple is in the driver’s seat.”
