The Iilfa Tree

“So this place really must be the source of the Mist.”

image

The Iifa Tree  was planted long ago by Garland as a gigantic soul filter, filtering the souls of Gaia.

The dwarves of Conde Petie refer to the Iifa Tree as the Sanctuary, because after going through a ceremony, not unlike being married, the happy couple journeys to the Iifa Tree to inscribe their names.

What is seen above the surface is not the true Iifa Tree, but just part of the tree’s roots. The true part of the tree resides underground and reaches all the way to the planet’s core, while its roots zigzag around the world just beneath the surface

Valhalla

the unseen Realm

image

Valhalla is an otherworldly dimension, also known as the Unseen Realm.. Some theories describe it as a city that exists beyond the flow of time, and others claim it is a future where time has come to a standstill.

Valhalla surrounds a temple to the goddess Etro, dominated by two towers with spiraling green structures atop them. Etro rests within her temple and Lightning protects her as a knight. Lightning’s rival, Caius, has been shown approaching the city, and Lightning has been seen fighting him as Chaos Bahamut in the wasteland around the city with her Eidolon, Odin.

The Black Mage Village

image

The Black Mage Village  is a location on the Outer Continent in Final Fantasy IX populated by black mages who have become self-aware and desire a life of peace. The black mages lead a secluded life in their village concealed by the Dead Forest.

Black Mage Village is a round area in the forest, but you have to go all the way down and around to reach it.

Zidane and his party hear about self-aware black mages from the dwarves in Conde Petie and decide to search them out. A lone owl beckons them on, going down one of either two paths. The party eventually find the village, but the black mages are initially cold towards them.

Vivi will leave in the middle of the night, and Zidane will tell Dagger an abbreviated version of his life story.  The following morning, the party regroups and the mages tell them something about an area beyond Conde Petie.

Long Island Vineyards - Travel Saturday

Today’s location feature comes from a place close to my previous home: NYC.  The vineyards along the east end of Long Island towards the Hamptons are home to several great vineyards and old world brewing techniques.

On their main website, www.liwines.com, the description of Long Island wines is summed up loud and clear: “It has been said by many that Long Island is one of the country’s most exciting wine producing regions today, with great reviews and high praise found in major food and wine publications nationwide. As the awards continue to accumulate, Long Island wines are increasingly sought after in fine restaurants and wine shops from coast to coast.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself.

While I have not been to any of these wineries on Long Island, I discovered a beautiful map of each one interconnected through notcot.org.  The artist Jacqueline Maloney lives in the Hampton Bays.  I’m sure her love of wine is strong, and this map is beautiful! I wish I would have gone given the chance!

All New Yorkers better head this way.  A gem like this cannot be wasted!
