NFL Football POV

If you don’t know already, i played four years of Divison I college football. And if you don’t know what that means…it means i know what the fuck i am talking about when it comes to most football related shit. I am an avid ESPN cult follower and probably could fill in as a replacement for Mike & Mike in the Morning if i ever was poor and desperate enough.

That being said, i thought i’d rant a little about a sports subject that annoys me.

THE TIGHT ENDS OF THE FUTURE

No, not these. I’m talkin about Jimmy Graham, Vernon Davis and Rob Gronkowski.

A stupid little story that is flying through sports media is the “discovery” of the future of the NFL: the athletic-as-fuck Tight End.

They are supposed to change the way defenses play. Too fast for linebackers and too big for safeties. I’m sorry, fucking bullshit.

This isn’t just an offensive evolution here people. Yes, we understand. Guys in the NFL are becoming BIGGER and STRONGER and FASTER. This new breed is nothing new though. So what…we have 3 dominant TE’s that cause mismatch problems. People seem to forget the OLB/DE that HAS been dominating in the NFL for the past 5 years.

Demarcus Ware, Brian Orakpo, Clay Matthews, Lamar Woodley, James Harrison, Terrel Suggs….talk about mismatches. These dudes are fuckin huge AND fast and have been wreaking havoc on offensive lines for the past 5 seasons.

This rant ISN’T to put down how badass Gronk and other TE’s are playing. It is more to remind the public that this story of the “Evolution” is bullshit. We’ve seen it already. I’m just tired of ESPN pushing a certain story and holding onto it as LONG as fuckin possible…..Tebow anyone?
