ok so here’s the rundown

the church was sexist and thought that sorcerors = dudes who control demons thru god and are like not totally morally accurate but exercise power and control and like know what the heck they’re doing, also are celibate

thought that witches were crazy harlots who had sexy time with demons, were vindictive, ate babies, and were in the service of satan

were really worried about witches cursing their dicks

laypeople weren’t too hot on witches either, there was a group of counterwitches called the benendanti who fought witches in their sleep armed with rods of fennel like ???? ok whatever makes you feel cool guys

people thought that jews were magicians/witches too like they’d be all oh yeah i went to a jew and they did this spell for me you know how it is
 because i guess my little christian: judaism is magic

aaaaand sexism is really built into the whole structure of demonology and  it is just. old religious guys. making up shit. as they went along.
