Inevitable Homoeroticism in Spanish Romantic Heroes - college AU in which Dean is a phd student and Cas is a professor. Love and awkward confrontations with Dean’s internalised homophobia ensue. One of my all-time favourites. The scene in which he finally comes out will make you have to have a little lie down. 41k, rated E.
Waves - another college AU (most coming out fics seem to be!) in which Cas is based around 2014!Cas and Dean is based around self-loathing oh God oh God why aren’t I straight Dean. Really well-written and it also has a short epilogue, which is always nice. 54k, rated M (although it does have scenes that most people would probably slap an E rating on). Warnings for attempted suicide.
Flying in Circles Inside a Jar - set in canon, I like how this author writes Sam’s reaction. It’s how I’d imagine he’d really respond. 11k, rated E.
Dean Winchester is a 100% Heterosexual, Manly Man of Masculinity - again, one of mine, so consider this very secondary to the others. I’m shoving it here because I wrote it as a request to someone who wanted a coming out fic, so it fits the brief. College AU, rated T, 10k.

My opinion: Okay, don’t let the warnings squick you. This is one of the most original stories I’ve read. It was interesting and the way it was written was absolutely flawless. It was a different take on assassin!HarryandDraco and it was perfect.

Start Quoting Shakespeare and We’re Done - 15k. Dean is a mechanic, Cas is a librarian, Sam is in a love-hate flirtation with Gabriel, who owns a chocolaterie. As you might be able to tell, it’s so fluffy you’ll die. One of my favourite Destiel + Sabriel fics. Rated T.
A Cold Academic Hell - in which Dean and Sam are both students (Dean is a mature student, Sam is a junior) and Cas and Gabriel both work at the university. The series is 114k words and a warning - it was never finished. What was written of it is really good, and I genuinely enjoyed reading it, but be aware that it ends very abruptly. Rated T.
In His Image - just wow, really. 153k, rated E, this fic is basically Gabriel’s history, present and future. It’s incredibly well written and Destiel and Sabriel are both explored in very interesting ways. I can’t recommend this one enough.
Black Swans - sassy Gabriel. I think that says a lot about this fic, but I’ll also add that it’s deliciously plotty, written with a distinctive and interesting style and should probably be made into a film at some point (although maybe with some tactful ‘fade to black’ moments). 66k, rated E.
How (thanks to Gabriel) Dean and Castiel (accidentally) raised each other (and Sam) - starts off as a kid fic, but is so much more than that. Another fantastically written one, this spans all of Dean and Sam’s lives, from childhood to adulthood, and it’s just wonderful. 67k, rated E.

Eames is an incorrigible flirt and Arthur can’t help but like it - I think my favorite part of this fic is that despite Arthur’s reticence in the face of Eames’ upfront flirting, Eames still admits to finding Arthur ridiculously sexy in everything that he does. The author manages the perfect balance between funny and meaningful and ridiculously attractive. One of my favorites. <3

reasons to rec: Definitely one of the more intense fics I’ve ever read, foxxcub manages to paint a very clear picture of Arthur and Eames’ past relationship without overwhelming you with unnecessary details. There is such a highly charged atmosphere between the two characters and every exchange between them leaves you hoping for something to break so that they can figure their shit out already and fall back in love - but the resolution to the fic is perfect. foxxcub skillfully manages the line between intense action and emotional moments making this fic a definite read. (Also, there is a puppy. If you need anything more than that, then I’m sorry, this blog isn’t for you. :P)

reasons to rec: This fic’s intensity is really breathtaking. Arthur wakes at age nineteen from a PASIV induced dream by the military. He has dreamt ten years of his life - ten years with Eames. The fic alternates between ‘then’ and ‘now’ and you read with your heart in your throat as Arthur slowly finds his way into becoming the man he was as he hunts for his Eames - because Arthur is still convinced that Eames is out there and real. Really heartwrenching stuff and so, so good. (And with a happily ever after!)
