The Leaky Cauldron || Harry & Melanie

Pushing aside the abandoned, brightly colored toys that littered the floor in her way, Melanie made her way towards the door, spinning the key on her finger as she went. Not that she needed a key being a witch but it was an extra precaution. She has started to become a bit forgetful lately (blaming the affects on her pregnancy) and having the key reminded her to lock the door if she ever forgot to pull out her wand for such a simple task.

Glancing over her shoulder she made sure Sophia’s things were out of the way so the house keeping wouldn’t have to navigate around it again. The girl was just starting to learn how to keep her head up, she wasn’t so sure how she was so messy. Lifting her wand Melanie gave it a wave and watched as the toys lifted it the air and settled into her cot in the corner.

The Leaky Cauldron wasn’t her ideal place to go with her daughter but it was the cheapest and with her salary she didn’t have enough for a decent sized one-room flat. And she didn’t want to move in with anyone else, having them take in her and a baby would not be fair to anyone and she wanted to be sure she could take care of her own daughter when she needed to.

She just hated that this was what she had to deal with now.

But having plans with Harry was making it a little bit better. Whistling under her breath she walked the short distance to the stairs and bounded down them, going right up to the bar where Tom the Barkeep was wiping it down and mumbling under his breath, something about unicorns and badgers. She put in a drink order with him and sat down at a table by the unlit fireplace, preferring the view it had of the pub/Inn.

“Harry, over here!” Melanie called out when she spotted the bespectacled boy. “Here I said I’d be the one to socialize you but you managed to get out on her own.” She wiped away an imaginary tear. “You’re growing up so fast!” She teased.

“Before I read Harry Potter I was composed of magic dust and fairy breath, and reading the first book had been what brought all my particles together. Harry Potter was my personal Big Bang. ”
