Camilla Denison on the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Leaders for Global Operations Program
As a corporate leader, I strive to overcome business challenges with innovative and sound solutions. I currently serve as the Chief Executive Officer of SOMS Technologies, LLC, but before I achieved this position I oversaw operations at several other companies, including Champion Laboratories Inc. and Alemite. One of the most difficult challenges in my life, though, occurred while attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. As an untraditional student determined to achieve my academic goals, I balanced studying for dual Master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Business Management with raising my three young children. I earned both my MIT degrees from the university’s Leaders for Global Operations program, allowing me to pursue a new and vibrant future with the backing of one of the nation’s top technology schools.
The Leaders for Global Operations program allows students and professionals to receive technical training from MIT’s School of Engineering and business education from MIT’s Sloan School of Management. Leaders for Global Operations students earn a Master of Business Administration or Master of Science in Management degree from the Sloan School of Management and one of seven Master of Science degrees from the School of Engineering, all within two years. The program’s technical degrees can focus on Biological Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Engineering Systems, and Chemical Engineering.
Established in 1988, MIT’s Leaders for Global Operations program partners with leading corporations in their respective industries, among them The Boeing Company, General Motors Corporation, Cisco Systems, Inc., and Dell Inc. Students work with these partner firms throughout the two-year program, completing a six-month internship at one of them and learning from the companies’ executive managers and technical professionals. During the course of their studies, Leaders for Global Operations students visit manufacturing plants, attend speaker seminars, and participate in career development, all of which thoroughly prepares graduates for executive positions at technology firms worldwide.
