Gayngs fella Ryan Olsen has a new project, again based out of Minneapolis. Where Gayngs was cannabis-infected soft rock, Poliça is nocturnally-bent R&B with a trip-hop recall.

Olsen’s production hand is evident, even if he is staying out of PR picture; there’s an overriding feeling of detached spookiness. The co-production by Spoon’s Jim Emo is also clear, you can hear it in the rolling live drums and coiling bass.

Bon Iver guitarist Mike Noyce is on board, but the front is singer Channy Leanagh .. and her song is Auto-Tuned and spiky.

‘Lay Your Cards Out’ has a laid back petulant rhythm with waves of crashing swiftness. Low murmuring, hissy synth keys carry Leanagh’s cry “Get your cards out, I am waiting.” Moody and modernistic.

Poliça’s Give You The Ghost Album is out on Memphis Industries in April.
