best albums I heard for the first time this week
- Disco Inferno - D.I. Go Pop - playful and childlike, but nowhere near innocent. a snotty and menacing exploration of I don’t know what. The 5 EPs is next.
- Codeine - The White Birch - not sure what to make of this one. guess I need to give it more time? started off sounding kind of sickly and thin, then towards the middle/end it started to develop and come into its own a bit but it mostly just made me want to listen to Spiderland. sounded promising but I don’t know if it’s the slowcore masterpiece I was led to hope it was. hopefully it’ll be a grower.
- Sean McCann - Prelusion - I have yet to hear something from Sean McCann that isn’t gorgeous. three albums so far from this year alone that are all outstanding. this is way more sparse and zoomed in than most of what else I’ve heard and probably the closest thing to a straightforward “ambient” album I’ve heard from him. also the copy of Sincere World that I pre-ordered shipped too so hopefully that’ll be on here next week.
- Laura Arkana met Peter Broderick - Lentemuziek - Laura Arkana writes and sings like a Dutch version of Julie Doiron, and Peter Broderick gives her voice and guitar lush, pillowy production that makes it sound juuuust right. I still haven’t cared that much for any of Peter Broderick’s solo stuff that I’ve heard, but he sure knows how to make someone else sound great.
- Owen - Ghost Town - I don’t know, it’s an Owen album. it’s pretty and comforting and all that.

Laura Arkana met Peter Broderick
“Lentemuziek”
