I thought it did look like a possession at first, but the way he stopped when things went wrong made it seem more like he was saying it on his own:
Also, the “ahh” always made me wonder if he’d forgotten the next line mid-chant and said that as sort of a filler, and the pause screwed the whole thing up and was the reason why the ceremony was (incomplete/ruined/done incorrectly).
But we still don’t actually know if the ceremony was a success or a failure, since we don’t know what they were trying to do. We don’t even know if they knew what they were trying to do. Just that what happened wasn’t what they expected. For 9 years I have wondered about this…
