Dunnn duunnnnnn duuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnnnnn…
At the cave, they have been for about and hour now.
The whole crew hanging around listening to some rock music. Minus Paul, since he decided to part away. Who knows what he was up to. The music they listened to was old school rock ‘n’ roll. Even on low volume the guitar riffs and screaming echoed through the cave. Making quit the surround sound.
Dwayne and Laddie sat on the fountain. An old checker board sat between them as they played. Both taking their sweet times making moves. Laddie would giggle as his black pieces would jump the red ones. Dwayne would laugh but try and act upset. They must have played a dozen times already. Neither one seeming to get bored from it.
“KING ME DWAYNE!” Laddie yelled.
“You are cheating.” argued Dwayne.
“Don’t be a sore loser.” He reached over and grabbed on of his pieces. Placing it atop the king worthy piece.
Dwayne shook his head in a laugh and continued on.
Star and Kaylee sat over by the couch doing arts and crafts. They gossiped while stringing small beads onto string. Stating they were making some jewelry…
As for David, he sits in his chair chatting with Marko. Nothing in particular really. Talking about whatever comes to mind first. Past, Present and Future. David looks over at the girls and slowly looks back at Marko. Marko has caught David’s stare at her and a small smirk appears. “Dave why do you always stare at her?”
“She just seems…different.” His tone is deep and firm. As if he knows something is going on with her.
Marko shrugs looking down at the pigeon he has perched on his fingers. He lightly pets the birds chest area. “She is just more comfortable around you all.”
“She sure is, but there is definitely something else to her.” He glances over at her again. “I just can’t figure it out.”
Marko presses his lips together holding back a laugh. He didn’t dare look up, that is until he heard Kaylee speak. He looked up to see her smiling at them both. She held a half done beaded bracelet. Was an awkward silence that seemed to last more than just a few seconds.
“Having fun?” she said breaking the silence.
Holding back the twitching smirk he looked up at her. Barely shook his head…”Yes ma’am, yourself?”
“Oh loads.” She held up the bracelet. Looking back and forth between the two boys. “What do you think so far?”
Marko smiled. “Looks great Kaylee.”
David pointed towards Marko. “What he said.”
“Thank you.” She smiled big and randomly jumped. “I am going to make you boys one ok? OK!” she ran away to the couch with a laugh. David shot Marko a look with that smirk now. Marko snickered as he shrugged throwing the pigeon into the air. Releasing it from his hostage…
Last night...
The elderly woman couldn’t help but continue to smile at them. Looking at the two kids. Sam and Star exchange a few looks and smirks. Laddie and Alice didn’t really acknowledge the woman. They were busy playing on the kids activity mat the waitress had given them.
“Oh I just love seeing families spending time together.” The woman started again. “That is what makes a family stay together.”
“Oh uhh… we aren——”
“I should just leave you to yourselves. Once again I am very sorry.” She smiled as she waved and walked away. Assuming that Sam and Star were a married couple with two kids. Sams mouth was dropped open as he looked over at Star. She snorted with a laugh. Covering her mouth and turning away…he smirked.
“Star, we are a likely couple.” he said.
She took a drink of her water and nodded. Not saying anything at all. Just chuckled at the thought. Finally their pizza came and they wasted no time in eating.
-FAST FORWARD-
They dropped Star and Laddie off and were headed on back home. Firstly to drop Alice off with her mom. It was pretty quiet besides the radio playing. “Sammy.” said Alice.
“Yea munchkin?” he responded.
“Can I ask you a question?”
“Yes you can.”
She was looking out the window and took a deep breath. “Are you my new daddy?” She turned to look at him in front of her. Sam glanced back at her and then back in front. Looking back and forth from the rear view mirror at Alice to the road.
“What?” was all he could get out.
“Are you my new daddy?” she asked again, only enunciating.
He nervously chuckled. “Well, uhhh…heh…I uhhhh well munchkin…oh wow.” he exhaled. “You should ask your mom.”
“Why?” she sounded sad.
“Well…b-because she will know. Mommy knows best right?”
“Yea.” she sighed.
He looked back at her. She looked sad as she looked out the window. “You know what munchkin, I am better than a daddy you want to know how?”
“I guess.”
“Well you are my best friend and I hope I am yours, we always have fun together…I am always gonna be there for you.”
She smiled a little. “You are my best friend Sammy.”
“I am glad to hear that munchkin…”
A few scratches and bruises here and there.
On his face and on his arms. Nothing that won’t go away in a few days. Some have actually already went away. The deeper cuts will take a little longer. As soon as they got home Lucy was there waiting. Worried and frantic as ever…One by one she gave each of them a hug. And asked question after question. Especially about Laddie and Star.
Dwayne immediately took Laddie up to his room. Boy was starting to shiver…
Marko carried Kaylee in and let her rest on the couch. At this sight Lucy turned into ultimate mother mode. Going to the kitchen and making coffee, tea…whatever to warm them all up and make these two feel better.
David and Paul assured Lucy that Star was safe also. Since she was in Edgar’s care for the time being. The big question on her mind was, “Is it all over?”
Neither of the boys could say for sure but they believed it was. Paul stated that Edgar’s purpose was to get his life back. And with what they saw…he most likely accomplished that goal…
David was the first up. He was looking in the mirror at his battle scars. The one that was on his back sure did a number on his face though. Long ass sharp nails coming from behind. He had one scratch above and below his eye. Whats that Disney character in the lion movie? Oh yea Scar…he smirked as he headed on down stairs…
Sam has been playing the video game with Laddie ever since Star left.
Haven’t actually done this in a few years actually. This kid was pretty damned good at it too. Sam would make random noises because he was loosing badly. Laddie would laugh and giggle at him…during their last game Sam lost. He held his head down and Laddie looked at him. Sam lifts his head and holds out his hand, “You are the champ!”
Laddie shook his hand and laughed. “I know!” he said silently.
Sam laughed along with him. Then out of the blue Michael walked in. “Hey bro.” said Sam.
Michael closed the door and took off his jacket. “Hey whats up?”
“Not much, just lost a game to whiz kid over here. Where you been?”
Sits in a chair. “Doing some thinking…about me and Star.”
“Speaking of Star I kinda got to talk to her a little earlier.”
“Wanna play another game Sam?” asked Laddie. Sam looked over. “Nah buddy, I think I have had my butt kicked for one night.” smiled. Laddie just smiled back and continued to play the game by himself.
Michael asked. “What did she say?”
Have been browsing around the store for a while now.
David and Paul stayed at the main cabin and Star at hers. She is a baking fool tonight. The rest of the group came with Lucy. Both her and Marko go down the list she had written up. A long list it was…
Kaylee and Laddie seemed to have hit of well. They trail behind giggling and laughing at each others jokes. Dwayne sounds to be enjoying the company as well. Lucy shudders at the memory of the lobsters. Hoping its not a repeat of that this time!
Oh today was exciting. Me and Laddie went outside and raked up a big pile of leaves. So big it was almost as tall as Laddie. Once we had almost every small leaf into the pile we…are you ready for this…we JUMPED IN! I have never gotten to do this before.
It was always rake them, bag them up and toss the bag.
Oh but I enjoy this much better. Even the dogs enjoyed them…we would chase them around the yard. Can Laddie be my little brother? I already consider him that status. Maybe I should ask Star though.
