Busy Mind Busy Body.
Ok, so I’ve done it again. Another delayed blog post.
Recently I feel like my mind has been in a battle of trying to be organised properly again, preparing for the exhibition sort of took over my life for two weeks and it became so intense that it was my primary focus, putting the importance of completion before any of my basic needs, ie- sleeping/eating, any kind of routine that I’d built was completely thrown out of the window and I’ve been struggling to readjust properly to everyday life.
I have learnt that I am someone who gets almost addicted to stress, I sometimes crave it. I know that sounds bizarre, I work well under pressure, sometimes I feel I need the pressure, I know I push myself too hard- a lot of the time, but I want to be the best I can be, and do as much as I can because life is so short I don’t want to waste a second doing nothing - having said that I need to accept that it is actually ok to do ‘nothing’ sometimes, otherwise I have no time to think or reflect.
So after being here for two months and kind of finding a happy medium of not being too stressed and adjusting to the fact I was no longer working ridiculous 16hr days constantly, the exhibition came almost out of no where and changed my mindset completely.
The exhibition was really interesting, and I’m glad that I took part in it ~ installing my piece was a lot less complicated (I suspended it from the ceiling) than I expected and I had some brilliant support from Mariko and also an artist (who is also a professor at another top art university in Seoul) who helped me set it up upon arrival, then the curator took us all out to lunch, I had Sundubu jiggae which is now officially my new favourite korean dish :) and I’ve had it a few times since too!! It’s probably one of the spiciest things I’ve tasted - another reason why I love it!
Then the show opened at around 5pm, there was also a performance artist and a very formal introduction, introducing the local major to all of the International artists - it was so nerve racking, explaining my work, but I’m glad I didn’t have to do it to a bigger audience!! I met some very interesting Korean artists and we stayed over night at a ranch (‘in the mountain’) as I coined it, because it was so far away from anything, just nature for miles and miles. Which was a sight for sore eyes the following morning when me and Mariko were up and ready by 8am - and we were waiting for the others to get ready to go back to Seoul, so we had a bit of a nosey round! :)
