'But not that he cried as well,' said the queen, amused at the memory. 'We were very lachrymose... Would you like to hear more romance of the evening? He told me the Guard should be reduced by half, and I threw an ink jar at his head.' 'Is that when he cried?' 'He ducked,' said Attolia dryly. 'I had not pictured you for a fishwife.' 'Lo, the transforming power of love.' ”

As I just finished one of my many rereads of Megan Whalen Turner’s The Queen’s Thief series, I felt a pressing need to draw Eugenides and Attolia. So I proudly present to you - the first sketch that I’m not yet completely happy with, but was too excited about not to share. I do hope I shall find the time to properly finish it.
This is one of the scenes in King of Attolia that I absolutely loved, couldn’t get out of my head and consequently desperately wanted to draw. In hindsight it might have not been the best one to start with since I haven’t drawn anything for quite a long time and am rather rusty, but well… it was certainly a challenge. The folds and movements and everything were a pain to draw and they still look a bit stiff and unreal, but at least they forced me to step out of my comfort zone.
Anyway, I shall now head back to reading.
“[The King of Attolia] said over his shoulder, "Do you know, it's the first time I've ever been caught in something I can't get out of?" His laughter was bitter. "Because I don't want out of it, Costis. I'm terrified that if they know how much I hate it, they might take it away." He stopped then, as if realizing what he'd just said.”

It’s been a while since I sought out fanfic for a book series. What am I supposed to do with a fandom that doesn’t have gifs and that I can’t vid? How does this even work?
(My teenage self who spent ~20 hours a week reading and never watched TV seriously is just staring at me in baffled horror right now. SHUT UP, TEENAGE SELF. YOU DON’T KNOW ME. Sometimes TV has floral fedoras!)
On the plus side it means I can’t vid it to “One Hand in My Pocket” so we should all be grateful.
Dinner with Megan Whalen Turner
Wow. I just did that. I had dinner with Megan Whalen Turner. Just her, me, and two other friends at Sundance. I can’t believe it really happened! She is so lovely and funny AND she signed all four of my books! (The Thief, Queen of Attolia, King of Attolia, and Conspiracy of Kings.)
How do I even go ON after this?
