“I don't believe the police, I believe the community.”

Protester says as the march begins.

She was referring to the police’s claim that Kimani Gray was armed when he was killed.

The Brooklyn protest is NOT a riot.

IT IS ORGANIZED

Just because there’s many angry Black people in the same place at the same time doesn’t mean it’s a fucking riot. In fact, if the police fucking BEHAVE, it will stay a protest.

“Today was very hard... I had to choose the color of the casket that I wanted.” ”

Carol Gray, mother of 16-year-old Kimani Gray who was shot seven times & killed by the NYPD on March 9.

His murder has sparked unrest & large protests in Flatbush, which of course have been met with mass arrests, brutality & even more violence by the NYPD. Gray’s younger sister was one of the people arrested earlier this week.

“No innocent child should be approached by a person with a gun. Doesn't matter if they're wearing blue jeans or a blue uniform. The problem is it's an oxymoron to some to say "black child" and "innocent" in the same sentence.”

—New York State Sen. Eric Adams, Melissa Harris-Perry (3/16/13)

Kimani Gray, 16 Year Old Boy Shot and Killed by Undercover Cops in NYC

blackyouthproject.com

Late Saturday night in Brooklyn, 2 undercover NYPD officers shot and killed 16 year old Kimani Gray. According to the police the teen pointed a gun at them, but according to  witnesses in the above video Kimani, was “running for his life” and yelling for the police to “stop”. The undercover cops said they singled Kimani out, because he was with a group of men and he adjusted his waistband in a suspicious manner.

Kimani’s sister Mahnefah Gray, said that a witness told her it was this “suspicious” waistband adjusting that caused the police to shoot and kill her brother.  She and others that knew Kimani never knew him to have a gun. Kimani’s cousin Malik Vernon insisted Kimani didn’t own a gun. According to another witness Kimani said ,“Please don’t let me die.” One of the officers replied, “Stay down, or we’ll shoot you again.” Kimani had just returned from a baby shower, and was killed only minutes after he was dropped off.

“A riot is the language of the unheard.”

—Martin Luther King Jr.

“Brooklyn, last night. Where the NYPD attacked a vigil for a 16-year-old black kid who they had shot in the back. NYPD declared a "frozen zone" that forbid press (who weren't there anyway) from reporting. New York City has no rule of law. Watch libertarians treat the size of their corn syrup sludge as more important than the right to life and liberty in the black community.”

—Jed Brandt, The Occupied Wall Street Journal

I want to know why pictures of the injured white photographer [who got away with a minor head wound that required a few stitches] from the Kimani Gray Justice Protest is getting more notes than the pregnant black woman who was assaulted by the police.

Do people not understand that this was the protest of a cop murdering a young man of color, and how them attacking a pregnant woman of color is not only the re-violation of the people of color in that community but blatant message that they don’t value the lives of existing poc or the future generations of poc and want us to basically die the fuck out?
