Safe in Our Hands

While looking for typography around Elephant and Castle, a few friends and I came across a free exhibition, its bright colours and amazing models caught our eye just from the outside.

The exhibition is called Safe in Our Hands, created by children and young people of Kids Company, children who are too young or too vulnerable to talk about their anxieties, art became the most powerful form of experssion, giving them a voice for their trauma and loneliness. The art rooms at Kids Company provide a haven for children.

The exhibition showcases work from children and young people across the centres. showing their fears through art and making it into something beautiful. Some worked with clay and plasticine, which encourages a safe release of distress.

The amazing work come people from as young as 6 and goes up to 21 years old. I really respect the work they have done as sometimes as designers/design students forget the root of art. It is not just for business or clients, but for yourself, we as designers need to remember there is fun in designing and it can be calm (without deadlines!) It is not always so serious.
