“What is Toronto?????”
—IBM supercomputer WATSON’s response in the form of a question to last night’s Final Jeopardy! answer, under the category “U.S. Cities”: “Its largest airport was named for a World War II hero; its second largest, for a World War II battle.”
A totally lame excuse for Watson’s blunder — emphasized by the three five question marks added by the computer itself — was given by the project’s leader. In the end, though, Watson ($35,734) bested humans Brad Rutter ($10,400) and Ken Jennings ($4,800).
At least they’ll always have Toronto.
