Justine Greening announces her HLOS for the railway
parliament.ukThe Secretary of State for Transport (Justine Greening): Today I am announcing my High Level Output Specification (HLOS) for the railway, as required by the Railways Act 2005. Covering the period from 2014 to 2019, it describes my vision for a railway which is more financially and environmentally sustainable, which supports economic growth and which delivers for its passengers and freight customers.

Today I revisited the route from Amersham, through Hyde Heath,Lee, and their adjacent hamlets then to Wendover, Aylesbury and onwards to the delightful villages of Quainton and Waddesdon. I stopped at end of the Chiltern part of the HS2 route at Twyford aprox. 30 miles from Birmingham.
I have not visted Aylesbury for about fifty years. Huge shock. But I expect that HS2 will result in the same impact HS1 had in Kent and we are likely to see service roads, ribbon development and the degradation of this AONB. They promised it would not happen in Kent but it did, I lived in an AONB and we had science parks and 11,000 ugly houses shoehorned in. It looked like Aylesbury. After all once an AONB has been damaged it becomes prime development land.
I am interested that Hon MP Justine Greening was checking out the HS1 route to appraise how the impact on the landscape could be engineered.
I hope that this is not the model for HS2 because it failed in the case of HS1 which followed motorways etc. This link is useful

and this is the likely truth as to why HS2 is planned
