Meet me, oh momma, in the city
And see everything’s is so fine
We’ll get together now, darlin’
Oh yes we will
We’ll make everything alright
Now honey don’t
Oh honey don’t
Please, please don’t leave me right now, baby
Right now, right now
Oh no no no
You got me, baby
You got me, darlin’
You got me where you want me, baby
Girl, I know you are satisfied
Still begging you, baby
Don’t leave me here
Please, please don’t leave me
Right now baby, right now, right now
Oh no no no
Most Things Haven't Worked Out
Junior KimbroughEveryone of us, regardless of education level, financial well being (or not well being), state of physical health, race, age, sexual orientation, creed, mantra,…..each one of us has a thread that connects us…I think it’s the blues. I’ve never met anyone who hasn’t felt the blues and if the winds keep blowing me in the right direction, I never will.
Junior Kimbrough ran a BBQ joint off the highway in Missisissippi (if I’m recalling the story correctly), and his schitck was to jam great tunes for his guests. It separated his business from the Burger King type joints attracting all the dollars…Fortunately, some tour buses of bands who actually worked the road and stopped there for a meal on the haul between venue to the next venue, appreciated what he offered the world and word got around…and from that word of mouth comes this post to your ears.
RIP Junior, your music lives on.

the black keys - meet me in the city
great tune to start your mornings with. this comes from their chulahoma album, dedicated to late mississippi bluesman junior kimbrough. i provided some context here about the depth and universal appeal of his music, along with one of his best recordings, although i didn’t fully elaborate on the profound effect it ultimately had on dan auerbach, tranforming his life entirely and causing him to pursue a career in music. check out the quote here. this tribute album of theirs is truly sensational though, impressive enough to warrant a 33 second track at the end where kimbrough’s widow talks about how proud she is of their efforts and how legit she found their presentation of his music. this particular track features some of the richest guitar tones you’re going to hear, some unison melodies with it paired with the vocals, a series of dignified yet expressive solos, and a beautiful outro with heavy tremolo effects.
