The New York Yankees fell short despite a ninth inning run against the Texas Rangers on August 25 2009. Elvis Andrus turned Melky Cabreras line drive into a game-ending double play to secure the 10-9 win for the Rangers. Michael Young and Nelson Cruz homered for Texas who scored seven two-out runs off of Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain to overcome an early four-run deficit. The Yankees responded to the Rangers 10-5 lead going into the ninth but fell just short. Jason Grillli allowed a leadoff single and a walk before Frank Francisco relieved him. Alex Rodriguez walked Hideki Matsui hit an RBI single and Jorge Posada hit another RBI single. Then Robinson Cano hit a two-run single bringing the score to 10-9 with runners on first and second with nobody out but the Yankees were unable to finish it.
