When God saw you hopeless, in pain, lost, and dirty, He didn’t feel pity. The reason why He sacrificed His own Son for you wasn’t because He pitied you, but because He loves you. Whenever He looks at you, He sees someone He loves, someone He wants to save. That’s the reason for the cross— LOVE. For you. Eternal love that not even sin, shame, guilt, dirt or evil can stop. That’s what God feels for you, beloved, and there’s nothing you can do but to receive it.
Don’t love people as a backdoor into revealing Jesus to them - that’s perverse, and it treats love as a means to an end instead of an end in and of itself. Reveal Jesus to people and tell them the gospel because you love them. Big difference, one on which the whole world hinges on.
Posting this because it’s something I’ve struggled with and I figure others may struggle with it too, so here’s some words of advice.
