Faux-cynicism aside—as well as the Replacements song of the same title—there was a time, when, a Bachelor’s degree meant something in more ways than one, and a high school diploma meant next-to-nothing unless one jettisoned such status by using it as a stepping stone to become an undergraduate.
No more, say the naysayers.
Now, they tell us, yesterday’s Bachelor’s is today’s Master’s: in other words, nevermind sweating it out for four years — you must commit to another two.
What they—the Ivory Tower—have done, is, conned those into believing this as a means of spending more money: college is big business in the US of A! So why not plunk down another five-to-six figures of your parents’, your own, or the circling vultures awaiting the fresh fall of your post-graduate, educated carcass, aka lending institutions: the banks, who, along with colleges offering advanced degrees that are supposed to elevate your status in more ways than one, benefit from your debt?
Still, in the end, as it was in the beginning and shall ever be, it is better to have Bachelor’s than a HS Diploma, and arguably better to have a post-graduate degree.
However, at the same time, when one thinks about college dropouts of notoriety, (such as, Bill Gates, Bruce Springsteen, and Ellen DeGenneris), then, perhaps there’s something to be said for a sentimentally—and not a financially—driven, given, and received education.
Ironically, as we (that is, those who’ve toiled long hours in libraries, 24 hour diners, in shared apartments, bars, and strange beds) know, there are intangibles and experiences — life lessons that even the priciest college education can neither buy nor instill.

While other primates have exhibited simple vocabularies, it has long been believed that syntax, the construction of sentences, was unique to humans. But a recent study suggests that at least one species of monkey communicates in vocalized sentences.
A research team led by Klaus Zuberbühler of the University of St. Andrews has been studying the calls of the Campbell’s monkey, a primate found in the Ivory Coast. The team looked at how the calls of adult male monkeys vary in response to various stimuli. Campbell’s monkeys have six different types of individual calls, each of which has a distinct meaning. What’s surprising, however, is that these monkeys actually string together multiple types of calls to create communications with entirely new meanings. Zuberbühler and his team claim this is a form of syntax, suggesting that Campbell’s monkeys have developed a sort of sentence structure. Other primates, such as chimpanzees, have shown an understanding of language, able to connect words and symbols with specific meanings, but haven’t been able to combine those words into sentences.
The team has identified the meanings of the individual calls, as well as how they can be combined to form completely different communications:
The “boom-boom” call invites other monkeys to come toward the male making the sound. Two booms can be combined with a series of “krak-oos,” with a meaning entirely different to that of either of its components. “Boom boom krak-oo krak-oo krak-oo” is the monkey’s version of “Timber!” - it warns of falling trees.
Combining the “boom-booms” and “krak-oos” with a third sound, “hok-oo,” warns monkeys of the presence of other monkey groups. It appears that initially, the monkeys developed the calls to warn each other of specific predators, such as leopards and eagles, but their anti-predator vocabulary has evolved into something much more sophisticated.

Great game. My only problem is that I cannot spell worth a darn. My only hope is that I can spell obscure and exotic words.
Luckily, there is more to this game than just spelling or you could play hangman. There is the strategy to get the most points from the least letters. There is the stratagem of out foxing the other players by not leaving any openings to play. Then there are the double and triple word scores. Being stuck with the “Q” after all the “U’s” are used and no weird dictionary is like being stuck with “The Old Maid” (Disney’s 102 Dalmatians Cruella Old Maid Card Game ASIN: B000052019) You cunningly exchange it when you are sure there are no more letters to take.
I have played this game with two players. However, this takes the angst out of having your next play foiled at the last minute and finding that the alternative play has evaporated also.

This is a wonderful game. I really like having the drawer for the trays, tiles, timer & rules. Unfortunately there were a few small scratches on the edges of the frame of the board. This one seems a little more flimsy than the one my friend bought 3 years ago… less quality.

We bought this as a Christmas gift for our young adult son who wanted a gameboard to last his lifetime, as he is an avid Scrabble fan. The game itself is nicely made and has good looks, but it arrived damaged and had to be returned. It is a nice gift, but too much to pay for just the haphazard player.

This is a great scrabble board for the serious player - but I don’t think it would be useful for someone who player scrabble occasionally. This is a “big board” and I don’t think it would work well for putting away / taking out. We leave our scrabble board out all the time.
I was a bit hesitant to purchase this board because the letter tiles are not wood - they’re a slightly textured faux ivory (plastic). After playing maybe 10 games since Christmas, I can say that the letters “pass the test” and work well. Because they are an ivory color, they are higher contract and it seems a bit easier to see view.

Okay, I have quite a number of photos. But I’m really tired and I’ll do a short one for now. Yesterday was spent rather simply with Wormies. We went to play L4D2 after our one and only exam. Then we spent the night at Le Bar, singing and making myself bloated from just Coke. B came and fetch me and I stayed over at his house.
This morning, rushed home to change and went to Town to meet B. Caught Couples Retreat(DONT WATCH), shopped and went back home. Norvan brought Goldver to his house and we watched how Mint and him interacted. Funny thing is they both tried to hump one another, Mint was seriously damn cute. Can’t wait to meet Ivory as well. B sent me home again despite being very tired himself. Love you B!
