This is part of the Whitecross Street Grant Scheme.
“Since 2004, the council along with other funding bodies such as English Heritage, Transport for London and EC1 New Deal have worked in partnership to fund improvements to the historic buildings and street environment of Whitecross Street.
More than £2 million has been invested over a number of years to carry out repaving and lighting works, improve market infrastructure and create new public spaces along Whitecross Street from St. Luke’s Church to the Barbican.
Grants were available to property owners towards the repair and restoration of the street-facing parts of their building. The main focus of the scheme was to improve commercial frontages by funding high quality new or restored shop fronts, removing external solid roller shutters and improving signage. Some structural or repair works to roofs may also be eligible but are not the council’s priority.
