So someone finally got around to combining the depth of Dwarf Fortress with the visual interaction of Minecraft
This is Timber and Stone. It is inspired by mainly Dwarf Fortress and Minecraft. If, like me, you’re a little off put by the lack of visual interaction of Dwarf Fortress and a little off put of lack of things to do in Minecraft, then this is for you. Plus it doesn’t look to be as mind numbingly hard to learn as Dwarf Fortress.
Looks amazing IMO

30 Days of gaming
Day 12 - A game everyone should play
Bastion. I cannot stress enough just how amazing this game is! And not for innovative gameplay or ground breaking graphics, but for the narrative experience. The story, the characters and how it’s delivered truly sets this one apart from the rest. If you haven’t, go play…NOW!

When I started playing Lucid I thought,
I sure hope the money I paid for this game isn’t being used to buy drugs.
Then when I went to YeaBoing’s website to see if they had any other games, I thought,
I sure hope the money I paid for this game isn’t being used to buy drugs.
(currently on sale for 124¢ US, so at least it won’t be too many drugs)
Winnitron 1000 FTW!

If you’re reading this blog, chances are you like video games. Most gamers are content with the next Gears of War - but a lot of you REALLY like games and see past the big budget titles. You would rather play Moon Diver instead of another round of Call of Duty. Instead of wasting your money on Homefront, you happily give your money over to games like Bullet Soul and Sword & Sworcery.
And if you dive even deeper into gaming, you will eventually discover indy games.
Along comes Bit Collective with the Winnitron 1000 arcade cab. The Winnitron 1000 is a free-to-play arcade cabinet designed to showcase the awesomeness of indy gaming - all in an effort to inspire more indy developers to create more indy games. It’s a never ending cycle of winning.
The Winnitron 1000 magically tours the Earth, visiting shows like PAX and the upcoming No Quarter show in NYC this week. If you happen to be in the area, stop by and check it out.
It’s an arcade full of awesome games you never played before - and it’s FREE. Stop being stupid.

Sunday Musical Interlude - Jan. 9 2011

Welcome ladies and gentlemen to 2011! It feels like a while since I’ve done one of these, but getting back into the swing of academia (with its vagaries of studying swiftly followed by drinking) is taking its toll.
This week I’ve got a track from one of my favourite indy games of last year, VVVVVV, an awesomely titled old-school platformer that at last glance was selling for something around four dollars on Steam. So if any of the words in that last sentence got your attention you have no excuse not to pick it up.
I had a hard time picking a singular favourite from the soundtrack, as it’s all an example of chiptronica at its best, but here’s “Potential for Anything”.
I feel the need to reiterate: if you like old-school games at all you really should give VVVVVV a try.
IndieGames selects Top Browser Games of 2010. Finally.

Right. I know. It’s 2011. Lists for 2010 are sooo December. Still, this list of games is a great time killer that I plan to dig into immediately (after dowloading FATALE for free, that is. WOW NEWS!). The descriptions of these games alone are entertaining.
