Neal Morgan most certainly has an impressive resume: he is the drummer for both Joanna Newsom and Bill Callahan, having performed with them since 2006 and 2009, respectively. Not only that, he also arranged and performed the percussion on Newsom’s Have One On Me and Callahan’s Apocalypse. Morgan is now proving that he can do more than just create excellent percussion arrangements. In 2009, he released his debut, the drum and voice album To the Breathing World, and he is now preparing for the release of his followup. In the Yard will drop on the 24th of January in the new year, self-released but distributed through Drag City. I love what he does with this first single; if the rest of the album takes creative steps on par with what is presented here, I will definitely be putting it in heavy rotation. [link]
