“Your human frailty is not a regrettable fault to be treated by proper self-care so you can get your nose back to the grindstone. Sickness, disability, and unproductivity are not anomalies to be weeded out; they are moments that occur in every life, offering a common ground on which we might come together.”

TW: Illness - Word up & fond rememberings to you if we are friends and you have never made me feel awful for making crass jokes about maybe dying young. Word up and always in my hearts to you if you saw it for the thing it was, a way to cope with my shitty illness. Inexpressible dissapointment to you if you have ever tried to tell me i’m lucky for the few things i am afforded as a compensation for the irreplaceable losses i & my family have endured because of structural ableism. I will be robustly transmitting the same wordless dissapointment to every other “healthy” fool out there who puts this shit on my fellow chronically trill fam as well. thanks for nothing, you breathers, keep your healthrotten insights yourself.

“And nothing, not even romance, is sentimentalized more consistently and vehemently than mothers. Every time you write about your mother, people expect to go “aw.” It’s your mother, after all. Just say the words “my mother” in a random context—“My mother clipped her toenails the other day”—and someone will go “aw.” You cannot be neutral about your mother; anything you say about her must be tinged with Hallmarkian affection. And if you do write about your mother in a way that isn’t meant to make people go “aw,” you had better be giving us absolute monstrosity.”
