Mies, Modernism and Robie House

Spend a Saturday evening with wine, hors d’oeuvres and informal tours of Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous Robie House.

What do Mies van der Rohe, IKEA furniture, and robots have in common? Find out when Justine Jentes, director of the Mies van der Rohe Society, leads a conversation about Crown Hall, which this summer boasts two exhibitions on the theme of memory: Jeff Carter’s scale models of the demolished Walter Gropius buildings at Michael Reese Hospital constructed with IKEA furniture, and a series of twelve interactive scenes created by Chicago Robotic Theatre telling a story about memory. Frank Lloyd Wright’s iconic Robie House will serve as the venue for this exploration of Modernism through the decades.

Saturday, June 18
4 to 7 p.m.
Robie House, 5757. S. Woodlawn Avenue, Chicago

Whenever I have to assemble something from IKEA

Even with the instructions, it’s like:

So my Mum and I just set up our Ikea table

and in the instructions it said that it would need two people to set it up one to hold everything and the other to do all of the work. So as my Mum and I are setting this shit up the guy who is holding the table parts in place on the instructions has this stupid smile on his face. Then once we start setting it up my Mum was the one holding all the stuff in place like the smiling guy in the instructions so we just started calling him the smiling asshole. So the entire time we are setting up this table my mum said that she would just be the smiling asshole.
