I plan to write "I Believe In Sherlock Holmes" on EVERY desk I sit in tomorrow at school if I can do it without getting caught.
I also plan to place them in these other places:
- My car
- My friend’s car
- Wal-Mart
- Kroger’s
- My dog’s collar
- My mom’s purse
- Make a button and put it on my school bag
- My psychology teacher’s board

“I BELIEVE IN SHERLOCK HOLMES”
Is there really any strong evidence that Sherlock Holmes is neurodivergent in a way that matters?
Specifically, is there any evidence that he is genuinely unaware/unable to perceive people’s emotions or unable to predict their emotional reactions to his behavior? Because I don’t see it. I see a lot of evidence that he is very perceptive about people’s motivations, people’s emotions, how people will react to certain behavior, how to act to manipulate someone into the response he wants.
I think it’s just a stupid-ass fandom interpretation where poor innocent Sherlock is just unable to understand that his abusive behavior hurts people’s feelings. As opposed to the more likely, more supported theory that he’s an asshole, or a sociopath who doesn’t care about hurting other people.
Which is because a certain type of annoying fanchild likes to think of themselves as someone who is “too smart” to have to care about treating other people with decency. Which is kind of cute when it’s coming from a teenager, but let that mindset go on too long and you turn into a libertarian.
Neither Libertarianism nor Sociopathy are things that should be accommodated.
Why John Watson is an important part of Sherlock.
If you took the time to read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novels, you would realise that the story is written in John’s perspective/point of view.
Also, the novels are about John’s life with Sherlock, not Sherlock’s.
Furthermore, if it wasn’t for John Hamish Watson, Sherlock would have most likely got bored, and done something stupid like overdosed, got murdered/died during a case, or committed suicide.
For example; in the very first episode of BBC Sherlock, if it wasn’t for John, Sherlock may have died. Who knows if both pills weren’t poisoned, and Moriarty has switched the pills, but even the cabby didn’t know.
Another example, in the Great Game, Moriarty would have probably killed Sherlock practically instantly if John hadn’t of been there to buy them some time.
In every episode, actually, John saves Sherlock’s life in some way or another.
That is why John Hamish Watson is important.
I BELIEVE IN JOHN WATSON.
So, dear person who said John Watson is a pointless character in Sherlock and you don’t see why he is even there. THINK. I could give you reason after reason as to why he is important.
I Believe...
I believe in Sherlock Holmes.
I believe in John Watson.
Moriarty was real.
I believe in Sherlock Holmes not just because he is the most human of human beings and can be that clever, but because he is capable of uniting so many people. I don’t think John would be as good of friends with Lestrade, Molly, or Mrs. Hudson if it were not for the common uniting bond of Sherlock. He certainly would have never met Mycroft if it wasn’t for his involvement with Sherlock.
But beyond the stories and characters within the show—the show itself unites people from across the globe. I have been reading “I believe in Sherlock Holmes” posts all day. Since the airing of The Fall, I really haven’t seen anyone post, “Oh, I had an average response to it—it was okay.” No, almost everyone is like OMG ALL OF THE FEELINGS! How do I cope? Tears forever. Maybe I am looking in the wrong places, but I don’t think I am. Thousands of people have reacted to this show on an almost visceral level. My heart was ripped from my chest at the same time John’s was—that pain is very real. It’s Wednesday now—I watched the episode Sunday night, and I still can’t get it out of my head. This is a sign of a great work of art. The feelings and the emotions are as real as if I was going through this in my own life. We throw ourselves at good books, tv shows, movies, art, music, etc etc, because we want to lose ourselves in something and feel so many emotions in a safe place. I can wake up tomorrow and know that my best friend in the universe did not in fact throw himself off of hospital after having his reputation and life brought to shambles around him; however, crying out at such emotion from a show helps a person get past their own pain in their own life.
In processing all of these emotions, it has brought a community together who is looking for support to deal with the surge of feelings since seeing The Fall. A support group who will see the feelings and emotions and understand that yes we are feeling all of this for fictional characters in a tv show, but it was something that touched us deeply and we want to share that. It’s an emotional release, and those who mock it are being callous to the feelings of others. For those that mock, maybe there is something else that is not Sherlock that touched you deeply and you wanted to share that with people who felt the same way. The raw emotion that was portrayed onscreen during The Fall is something that is phenomenal, and it translated to all of those watching it.
This is why I believe in Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
