a thought

(post disclaimer: i’m not saying it is this, necessarily, for me, or anyone; or if it is, that it’s the whole of it (though there’s nothing wrong if if it is); it’s just a thought; it kind of leads back to when one of the things i listed was “society”; this could also probably be worded better or something, but; anyhow…)

when you are someone who
[because you are in a group (wrongly) painted as such, or because of other reasons]
are told you are not a human
[by which they mean, lesser than, not a person, not an anything; really]
(because you lack x trait or have y thing, or whatever)

so maybe you internalize that and

well maybe you think they are right
(i am not human)
even though they are wrong
(i am not lesser)
[though of course, that, too tries to sink its claws in, and sometimes it wins]

so you say it
so you are it
“i am not human”

then
they turn around
and spit in your face for that
“of course you are! you can’t be anything but human! freak!”
(because they won’t let you have even that)
[and go right back to denying your personhood]

(damned if you do, damned if you don’t, damned if you anything or nothing or in-between.)
