N: I think the patient had a previous miscarriage…but I can’t ask her with her sister in the room because I don’t think she wants her sister to know. (The patient spoke a dialect of French and her sister was interpreting)
Me: Maybe you can ask the sister to ask the patient whether she had a ‘close friend’ who had a miscarriage and that’s why she’s afraid of being pregnant?
N: Good idea!
N (to patient and sister): C, do you mind asking your sister whether she had a friend who had a miscarriage? Is this why she’s worried about the baby?
Patient and sister begin talking. Suddenly, they start to argue and yell.
N: Um, ladies?
