Trendspotting
youtube-trends.blogspot.comHere were the trends on Youtube. I decided to start going here more frequently as per @rotolo’s recommendation. I also follow Google Hot Trend RSS Feed, which if you don’t already, you should, it’s great for seeing trends.
Anyone else have any good trend sites they use? Reddit, Digg, Hype Machine?
I think trendspotting was mentioned by several of our speakers, so this is something that we should all start being aware of. I am still really lazy with social bookmarking, but that’s another great way to see what people are posting around. Posterous seems like another hot new site for that.
Heimat
HauschkaHauschka - “Heimat”
![]()
After family dinner let out last night I made my way over to the Manhattan Inn in Greenpoint to check out music from the German composer Hauschka. I knew little going into this, but left very impressed. The dude take random object from mundane strips of tape to vibrators and ping pong balls and places them inside the piano to create these multi-textured sounds that are as much performance art as they are sound design. I highly recommend digging through his hypemachine tracks as these were the people who spread word about the show in the first place. In the chosen select ‘Heimat’ you can hear a lot of the nonsense going on inside the guts of the piano, but seeing the sounds happen and the variations be made in person made this a truly enjoyable evening.
After missing most of CMJ with work and projects, it was nice to experience some new music a couple days after. Photo above from the super dark main room at Manhattan Inn. If you haven’t been, drinks and food are very affordable.
