Hello!
Tumblr is where tens of millions of creative people around the world share and follow the things they love.
Sign up to find more cool stuff to followok so i just kind of want to put my opinion out there as a non-book reader (GASP. non-book readers have OPINIONS. valid ones???) on the house of the undying scene.
there is a LOT of complaining about it, on my dash at least, about how it differed from the scene in the book. now i’ve read what happened in the house of undying in the book and let me just say, i personally completely understand why they chose not to do all of that in the show.
they are trying to cater to a general audience. i know, i know, it’s frustrating. but honestly, if they did all of what grrm wrote in the books for the HoU scene and put that in the show i, as a non-book reader, and likely several other people who don’t read the books, would be COMPLETELY LOST AS TO WHAT THE FUCK WAS GOING ON. it would be completely lost in translation because we wouldn’t have any point of reference.
some things just do not work on screen like they do in books and that was one of them.
House of the Undying
I have been looking foreword to House of Undying ALL SEASON and basically they cut it. I totally understand why. They had to make her visions be about her. This is a show not books. Firstly, money issue. They spent all that money on Blackwater and on CGIing Dragons, Wolves, and White Walkers. I knew we could get very little visions in Undying. Her visions boiled down to will get to Westeros just as invasion starts, will go beyond the Wall to perhaps destroy “great other” or whatever is controlling White Walkers, and either die doing so or die content and be able to meet with her family in the Night Lands. We didn’t need foreshadowing from her about RW or anything. Those visions were HER visions her future. Thank god the show realizes that they need to keep reminding us that yes there is a something bigger happening and yes all those playing the game of thrones are going to get slaughtered if they keep ignoring these bigger things. It needs to have a start, middle, and end (even if the books don’t end before it does. I have faith the show will finish this story). Even if the books don’t have a climax where Dany/Jon/Dragons/Anyone else on team save the world (Prob Bran, Jorah, Selmy, Brianne, Jaime, Jon Con, Arya, Sam, Davos/Stannis/Mel) save the world and then have everyone else have a little epi picking up the pieces (Tyrion, Sansa, wildling leaders, Gendry, old town crew….so on) I’m pretty sure the show is shaping up that way.
Which is fine with me. I should have never started this series before it was finished. The books really need to shit or get off the pot. We STILL don’t know exactly what the White Walkers are all about. We STILL don’t know who is the savior Jon or Dany. Everyone is sitting around doing nothing. OK but, I’d like my story to end please.
