Femmespiration: CALLING FOR SUBMISSIONS!!!
Calling all hard femmes, high femmes, androgynous femmes, fat femmes, trans* femmes, queer femmes, femmes of color, disabled femmes, sex worker femmes, and femmes who intersect one or more or all of these groups….I’m asking for submissions for my brand new zine: Femmespiration.
Femmespiration is a zine that is meant to unite femmes and inspire them by inspiring each other. A means to express ourselves and debunk the idea that femininity is reserved for the white cis conventionally attractive woman. The only requirement for submitting to the zine is that you are a femme identified queer person.
For people who are looking to submit any femme related original artwork (collages, drawings, paintings, pictures, etc) or femme related writing (short stories, rants, poems, dialogues,etc.) PLEASE submit to the zines e-mail; femmespirationzine@gmail.com and include your name, website (tumblr, blogspot, or the like) and a contact email if you’d like. If you want to choose to stay anonymous you can either omit this information or let me know!
Do you want to contribute but don’t have any work to submit? That’s fine! A portion of the zine will be dedicated to one question…what does femme mean to you? You can answer this in any form you please, however long or short you fancy and you can submit that to my email, my tumblr ask box, or even as a reblog or response to this post! Please include your name and website as well or let me know if you’d like to stay anonymous.
In conclusion, this zine means a lot to me in terms of self care and my mental help…all support and submissions are VERY appreciated!

What 'Femme' Means to Me.
To me, Femme is all about presenting a false dichotomy.
The feminine is still seen as inherently weak, fragile, dainty, subservient etc. in society, and though it takes ‘second place’ to the masculine, only certain people are allowed access to presenting as feminine aesthetically; the skinny, those who are conventionally/socially sanctioned attractive, straight-cis-white women, the able bodied etc.
So to me, the Femme identity is all about those who are traditionally/historically denied access to aesthetic femininity snatching it back, deconstructing it, and reclaiming it proudly and loudly. We subvert what society expects of femininity, and re-imagine it into our own empowerment, our own purpose, and our own identities; as opposed to a fascist, oppressive, and prescribed purpose or identity.
This in itself is a very powerful act, and that, along with a more superficial subversion of “the feminine aesthetic” is where the false dichotomy lies: femininity is weak, fragile, dainty etc. so when those who are fat/queer/gender queer/disabled/poc etc TAKE BACK the femininity denied them, it negates that perceived weakness, makes people confront what they see as (un) feminine, and makes them realize that strong/powerful and feminine are not, and should not be, mutually exclusive terms.
