May 4th: Today is my 1 year Tom Hiddleston Anniversay
One year ago today I had no idea who Tom Hiddleston was. It was the US opening of The Avengers. My family was sitting in a restaurant having dinner, discussing going to see it. I had read a review of it in the newspaper that morning, and the review said that the bad guy in The Avengers was the same as the bad guy in Thor. (None of us had seen Thor. I had wanted to see it when it was in the theaters for the Hensworth eye candy, but no one in the family was interested in going with me.)
I’m telling my family that in order to best enjoy The Avengers, we have to see Thor first. Plus we weren’t going to be able to get tix to see the Avengers on opening night anyways, the lines would be far too long. So, we headed home, stopping at Redbox to pick up a Thor DVD to watch that evening.
That flipping thing should come with a warning label. “Damn,” as Loki would say.
Now, I have the fangirl gene, but not about actors. Rock stars, yes. Athletes, yes. I even had a fangirl phase over celebrity chef Rocco DiSpirito. But never actors. I don’t really even like movies very much. But then Tom Hiddleston.
By the time Thor ends, we’re all Tom Hiddleston fans. My teen son says, “They marketed that movie wrong. LOKI was the cool one.” My 9 year old son says, “Loki’s not evil, he’s just misunderstood.” And I’m thinking, “Tell me more about THAT guy.”
The next morning, I do my first “Tom Hiddleston” Google search. And the rest, as they say, is history…
Attention, Avengers fans!
I’ve been having some sort of discussion with hiddlememes and some of her followers about a suitable fandom name for The Avengers fandom.
Here are some of the suggestions:
- The Shawarmas
- Assemblers
- Fanvengers
- Vengers
- Marvelites/Marvelettes
- Vengerheads
- Marvelians
- Shield Agents
Feel free to give more suggestions!
