Vanellope von Schweez from Wreck-It Ralph has pixlexia - a disability of the gaming world.... (spoiler alert) while in the beginning, she is discriminated for it, being called 'glitch', at the end she figures out how to use it to her advantage.
I have heard of Vanellope and her pixlexia! I haven’t watched the movie and I wasn’t sure how exactly they portrayed pixlexia, whether it was some kind of passing joke or if it was really played as a disability.
I’ll have to watch the movie and find out!
Love the blog! But you need to add Solid "Old" Snake circa the video game Metal Gear Solid 4. Rapidly aging due to his cloned physiology, physically in his seventies despite actually being in his early forties, in intense pain simply by moving (let alone by doing all the action movie stuff he has to do), still a chain smoker despite no longer having the lung capacity to smoke without a coughing fit, and patronized as a senile fool by allies who once idolized him. AND he saves the world!
Well this guy sounds awesome! I’ll have to add Metal Gear Solid 4 to the list of video games I have to play someday…
Thanks for the rec!
That's weird. Have they given a reason that they would change that amputation status? Seems bizarre to change that in a series where everyone's killing everyone.
I have no idea! I haven’t looked into the movie much or even watched it. Maybe they thought the special effects needed to make Peeta’s actor appear to be an amputee weren’t worth the trouble? Maybe they thought it wasn’t an important enough plot point to include in the movie? The decisions movie-makers make will never cease to confuse me…
All I can say for certain is that I wish they’d decided to keep Peeta an amputee.
