If we're the most highly evolved species on Earth, why can so-called "lesser organisms" do things that we can't do?
For example, why can birds and lower vertebrates regenerate dead hair cells and essentially avoid hearing loss while we cannot? With all the loud music we listen to, especially through headphones, we’re all screwed when we get older. Too bad we’re not birds.
Sound Amplification... Life Amplification?
The sensory hair cells are interesting little structures—literally. They detect the sounds of the world outside the dark crevasses of the inner ear. As awful as they look, without them we would further indulge in our increasingly anti-social society. (For example, it is [was] St. Patrick’s Day and what did I do? Nothing). These hair cells pick up oscillatory signal but hearing them is impossible unless our bodies work to try to ‘amplify’ the vibrations.
Weeks that end like this one has need an amplification of their own. Something to kick start the weekend, the start of spring break. Unfortunately, our human capabilities do not allow it. We are not able to amplify our own lives. We need another. Someone willing to change your day. Therefore, just as older people lose their hearing, young people are losing the meaning of living life at an earlier age.
School. Work. Relationships. Family. Love. Friends. Expectations. Who sets these rules? these codes of conduct? Why can’t we just pursue what we want to without societal input? There are many developing reasons why young people who are a part of a higher education system, or not, or working, lose there youth. It is the older generations telling us to make well for ourselves and take the opportunities we have. Honestly, these ‘opportunities I have are more like obligations. Obligations to honor your family. Obligations to not make a fool of yourself. Obligations to ensure a future for yourself and future family.
Lose the obligations and just run free. Just one night. Tonight. Feel the wind in your hair and the crisp chill on your back. Take just one moment and live your yourself. Live for your happiness and desires. Live because there is no one else that can tell you otherwise.
