One of my favorite debut albums of the past couple of months was Widowspeak’s eponymous August release. For a band just starting out, they manage to produce a very complete sound.
On Gun Shy, Molly Hamilton’s wistfully mellow vocals, paired with jangling guitar and unrelenting drum work all help the low-key tune from falling flat. The song is actually pretty versatile and floats from entrancing verses to upbeat and brighter choruses. If you dig it, definitely look into picking up the full album. It’s wonderful.
