dark is waiting

but hardly staying

“how’ve you been my lovely lady?”

words tap easy off your hands

a screen’s the only light you understand

you’re eyes are feeling tired now

but that was the whole plan

now you’re starting to suspect that

looking like you know won’t help

in the long run

but who’s counting rhymes?

but who needs the light?

dark’s the warmest thing you’ve known in a long time

light up

light up ‘til you’re home

a prince but

you cannot take the throne

and though it’s dark inside your head

from all the ink of words you’ve said

trust that

you’re not alone

left yourself in the dark 

losing your heart

all alone in the dark

where’d you go?

slowly breaking 

but hardly shaking

throw yourself into your unmaking

try your best to be a friend

the lights are on and they’re out again

the stars are screaming “help!” now

but you came prepared

your starting to suspect that

dim lit books won’t help

in the long run
