Considering Catelyn's main issue with Jon is the fact that he's a boy thus making him a threat to her children, do you think her reaction would be different if Jon was a girl? Obviously she'd still be annoyed but considering how low a bastard girl is would Cat take a completely different approach?

This is a great question!

I don’t think Catelyn would take a COMPLETELY different approach, but I do think it would make a difference in how she viewed Jon (OR JOANNA). Some of the issues would still be the same - bringing a bastard home to live in Winterfell would still be a huge slap in Catelyn’s face, and Ned’s refusal to speak of it would still make her wonder and leave her uncertain about Ned’s residual feelings for whoever birthed girl!Jon.

BUT, on the other hand, girl!Jon would be much less of a threat, as you said, and since Robb is Ned and Cat’s first child, girl!Jon would be much less of a threat from the start. A lot of Catelyn’s issues with Jon are tied to her protectiveness of her own children’s inheritance and her knowledge of what happens when bastard children, especially boys, are raised too close to their trueborn half-sibling’s inheritance and start thinking they could do better (aka Blackfyres).

So I still think there would be a lot of issues but less than in canon. I can’t remember the links but I know I’ve read a fic or two over at AO3 that genderbent Jon and the relationship with Catelyn was well handled - it was less contemptuous but still cool/distant. Even if Jon was a girl, I don’t think Catelyn would raise girl!Jon as her own, but I do think it would be somewhat better/easier than in canon because just as you said, a bastard girl really isn’t much of a threat, especially with so many trueborn boys.

You talk a lot about the perils of capitalism... You also talk a lot about your dream of becoming a filmmaker... Do you think the Film Industry propagates consumerism further? Are there aspects of the Film Industry you dislike? What would you do to make sure you weren't propelling capitalism? Sorry I'm just curious, I just want to know your opinion on it. Thanks!

“The Film Industry” is too broad of a term in my opinion, because there are thousands of sanctions for various artists, from the hollywood mainstream to independent filmmaking to artist associations that focus on particular issues and genres alone in their films without touching upon anything else. I assume you’re talking about the Mainstream market though because that’s the most prominent, most expensive, and most disgusting.

When it comes to my shorter films, in the time frame of 10 - 50 minutes, I’d prefer for them to be hosted online and apart of my creative sanction “Are You Revolting?”. Short film is the only kind of film orientated thing I’ve been focusing on as of late, because, well, I am not a millionaire and there are no big budget movie associations that would ever give me the time of day at this current point in my life. “An 18 year old girl looking for funding? Talk to your local arts council, stop sending us your scripts.”

However, I’d love for my future films to be good enough to make it into box office records and be played in huge cinemas, because not only does that mean I get control of the biggest audience, but also because it’s more classic/nostalgic. A lot of the film ideas I have for when I have a larger budget are very conventional and accessible, because they could fit into the 90-150 minute mark, and they follow the modern convention of story telling, e.g. beginning, middle, end with a steady flow of time. I have around 6 ideas for big budget films, but I’ve only completed the entire script for one. However the timelines for my main six are already written out and stored safely which is pretty good I think. If my future pans out the way I want, it would involve my films being apart of the mainstream film industry, and I have no shame in admitting that. I will however state that my passion for film doesn’t stem from the want of making money - that’s just a bonus if I become successful.

Now, on to your main question. Do I think the mainstream film industry perpetuates capitalism? Well, Duh. And that sucks. But that’s how it’s been from the beginning. Since the beginning of Cinema, it’s been entirely based around ‘Who’s idea will make the most money, and how can we make this cost efficient?” e.g. by overcharging for basic supplies and staff and setting the timeframe in which the film has to be made by to a ridiculously small amount of time. It sucks and it’s disgusting and it makes me mad, but not enough to influence the way I want to go about making my movies. It’s the main reason I am an advocate of internet piracy, because it gives the chance for people to find what they like, and then buy what they like. It gives more room for artistic exploration. If I really like a film after downloading it from the internet, chances are I will then go on to buy it on DVD. It’s just more logical and it gives people the freedom and space to actually fucking think, instead of being restrained by financial obligation and social conditioning. I think piracy is really fucking beautiful in a way.

Are there aspects of the film industry I don’t like? Yes. Many aspects. Mainly how it’s run predominately by men and men only. There are very few mainstream female directors anybody gives that much of a fuck about besides Sofia Coppola. There is no room for a woman in the film industry unless you’re willing to act - and acting isn’t my forté. But in the end, it’s one of those things that gives me even more drive to become a renowned filmmaker. For a while when I was younger I was very hesitant to admit to others that filmmaking was my life goal, because of the many times people said “but you’re a girl!!” - but I know I have good ideas and I know I have the guts and willpower to get them out there, so beyond anything I’m not willing to give up my biggest ambition just because the mainstream film industry is a boys club. A lot of people would say I’m at a disadvantage, but if I’m being entirely honest I feel like I have the biggest advantage of them all - pure, unrelenting girl rage. It gets me excited to think about it. It’s like climbing fucking everest.

“What would you do to make sure you weren’t propelling capitalism?” Try to do it on the lowest budget needed. Secretly encourage piracy. Digitize most of the advertising. And most importantly, make the film, and nothing else. No bullshitting. No special COPYRIGHT WARNER BROTHERS merchandise. Just make the film, put it out on DVD, and let bygones be bygones. If people enjoy it, that’s fantastic. If people hate it, that’s fantastic too. At least I got an emotional reaction out of somebody, that’s all that matters to me. I think trying to do anything else would jeopardize the point of the film and that would just be pedantic and misleading. Get it made, get it out, get it done. That’s the way I’d do it.

Phew, that took me a long time. I hope these answers suffice, it was a really interesting question. Thank you.

You're interested in witch craft? Can you tell me more? Also can you recommend some reading for someone who wants to lean about philosophy?

Witchcraft is a very personal thing and to explain my feelings toward it is not appropriate for a public medium like tumblr. I cannot elaborate on that and I am sorry.

My passion/interest/knowledge of philosophy has all stemmed from my love for human history and existentialism. Ever since I was little I’ve been fascinated with the idea of “existence” so while growing up my thoughts naturally progressed into asking questions a lot of philosophers have asked. Some good books I’ve read that relate to spirituality and philosophy includes The Tao Te Ching, which is a Chinese classic text. Wikipedia offers some very good articles on different types of philosophy to get you started (here, here and here) and some good philosophers to look into include St. Augustine, and Immanuel Kant. I’d just like to clarify that I don’t necessarily agree with everything the aforementioned philosophers believed in, but rather I found their points of view very interesting.

I hope this was helpful. x

1. Have you ever experienced something paranormal? 2. What are your favorite Parker Posey movies?

1. Have I ever experienced something paranormal?
For most of my young life I had my dad telling me about his ghost encounters and stories or his mother’s encounter with ghost children and I was pretty ensnared by that paranormal thing for a while until about 2011/2012 when I finally did the research as to why ghosts and haunting spirits don’t, in fact, exist. maybe it was more ‘fun’ (for lack of a better word) when I did believe that they were a possibility though.
In my view, as a recovering christian with christian damage, the metaphysical and paranormal stuff is just too closely tied in with the religious spirituality shit. I’m someone that grew up indoctrinated and believing in heaven and hell and demons and angels and sins and satan, that’s not good and that’s not healthy.
So to answer your question, no I have not experienced something paranormal but I so wanted to until recently.
as Kim Richards would say: I am not a fortune teller, although I do have psychic abilities :)

2. What are my favorite Parker Posey movies?
Best in Show, Party Girl, Waiting for Guffman, For Your Consideration, The House of Yes, Clockwatchers, Fay Grim, her role in Dazed and Confused, her role in Superman Returns, Broken English…god every role she has ever played and I’ve even watched a film she did with Ellen Barkin and Demi Moore all the way through called Happy Tears.
