I’m uncomfortable talking about exactly why I need to do this but yes, I am working. Yes, I am a professional person (a freelancer). Yes, I have no way of attending college and getting past my educational hurdles (I never went to school, got a fucking GED because of a fucked up life situation as a teen, and REALLY NEED COLLEGE so I can get a job finally and be an expert in my field as a writer and just stop starving/freaking out about rent/depending on others which is the source of my anxiety and panic attacks and depression).

My name is Arielle Daughma, but my name is not important!  It’s my dog’s name that’s more important: Lexie!

We adopted Lexie in 2004 when he was just about 3 years old.  It was supposed to be his final day in the pound before they would have had to euthanize him— you can say that we saved his life!  And he saved ours…

A toy poodle, we expected him to be sassy and high-maintenance… and he is!  But above anything, he is extremely intelligent.  He served as my mother’s new antidepressant; after we got him, her depression (a condition she’s suffered since she was a teen) lifted slowly and he’s become like another son to her!  When she broke her ankle, Lexie sat by her side, licking her leg and crying when she was in pain.  When times got rough, he would jump up and lick our tears away.  When my mother and father argued— he took his mom’s side completely; he growled at my father when he walked in the room when she hated him and became his best friend again after she forgave him!  He understands everything we say, which isn’t always a good thing… but we love him so dearly that it will hurt to part with him.  SO here’s where my little campaign begins:

At the moment, my family is suffering from financial hardship.  Both my parents are sick (my mother had a stroke a few months ago and we’ve only recently found out that it hasn’t been her first stroke, but one of many, and her condition is worsening over time, and my father, once a strapping construction worker, is now virtually disabled due to an on-site accident) and all my siblings are either in school or struggling to support themselves. 

We live off of the money my mother makes through her eBay store (which isn’t too much) and I go to University of Hartford mostly on hard-earned scholarships.  To put it short: we’re broke!

Lexie has had a weird cough for a long time, but we never took too much notice of it until recently.  He’ll wheeze for long periods and struggle for breath.  He’s become lethargic and his joints ache and crack.  He is covered in lesions and tumors, and while they seem to be benign, it doesn’t stop Lexie from picking at him himself and creating new wounds.  We’ve deduced (as we can’t afford a vet visit, let alone dog food) that it has to be heartworms, from the sound of his “cough” and the way he’s been acting as of late.

Lexie needs help, ASAP.  We don’t want to give up on him— he’s become the light of our lives!  What would his companion, or Boston Terrier named Finn, do without him?  What would WE do without him?

Help the little guy get his life back, please!  My parents are prideful, they don’t really know that I’m doing this.  But I love my dog and he has a few years of life left in him— I want to see him after my graduation in 2016!  I will humble myself and plead: please save my dog, for I cannot save him myself.
