Just in case any of you were wondering, the new gif size limit for Tumblr really is 2mb now! The only requirements are that it MUST be in a photoset of 2-10 gifs, and the photoset can’t be more than 10mb altogether. I just uploaded a new photoset that I made, and many of the gifs were between 1-2 mb.
There's a rumor going around Tumblr that you can have 2MB gifs if you put them in a photo set. Any idea if this is true?
It appears that Tumblr now allows GIFs that are larger than 1MB if the GIF is less than 400px in width. 500px GIFs still must be under 1MB.
500px GIFs look good on your Tumblr dashboard, since they fill up the entire column. A GIF that is under 500px will appear stretched, which is why smaller GIFs look better in photosets.
And, for the record, I was able to get a 400px, 2.1 MB GIF uploaded to Tumblr properly. So, 2MB might not be the upper limit…
The upcoming update for GIF Brewery will hopefully include this change in its Tumblr-GIF detection.
