This song was made to promote the new Tom Clancy game Ghost Recon Future Soldier. Even though this song’s production was funded solely for promotional purposes, Kendrick created something truly special that exceeded its original purpose.
For instance, one of my favorite Johnny Cash songs is The Rebel: Johnny Yuma. It was originally made for a subpar film under the same name, but the song (unlike the film) actually became pretty popular back in the day. Good music is good music…regardless of why or what it was made for. Promotional songs are no different.
Kendrick brings a true sense of intensity to War Is My Love with his on point lyrics and flow. Not to mention the production is absolutely phenomenal. This randomly turned out to be one of Kendrick’s best overall songs, which is obviously saying a lot.
